60th Anniversary of the Munich Shakespeare Library

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024 we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Munich Shakespeare Library at LMU’s Senatssaal at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz.

The evening was opened by Prof. Dr. Hans von Ess, vice-president of LMU, Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Schmid, Dean of the Faculty for Linguistics and Literature, and Prof. Dr. Claudia Olk, Director of the Munich Shakespeare Library.

The keynote speeches were presented by LMU’s former professor and vice-president Prof. Dr. Ina Schabert (“Die Entstehung der Münchener Shakespeare Bibliothek: Ein Feenmärchen”) and the professor and director of the Shakespeare Institute at Stratford-upon-Avon, Prof. Dr. Michael Dobson (“Libraries, Canons and Pantheons: Naming Shakespeare’s Peers”.

With music by the Express Brass Band and a birthday cake we celebrated, as Professor Dobson stated in his speech, “60 years and 60 more to come!”
